Imagine a scenario where water is the protagonist and where color turquoise combine with the golden sand of the desert. Think of a scenario in which canyons, waterfalls, pools invite you to bathe in a warm climate. So are the wadi in Oman, riverbeds that fill the arid deserts with life.

Wadi Bani Khalid and Wadi shab they are possibly the most impressive channels or canyons of Oman, and why not, of the world, since there are few places where nature is so capricious. A vergel, an oasis that makes all who visit it leave with a smile.

Wadi Bani Khalid and Wadi Shab

We were in the dry season, in the middle of January. It was low season and we had a serious doubt. Would Wadi Bani Khalid and Wadi Shab be dry? A doubt with foundation, since after more than 8 days, except the sea in Masira, little water we had seen. Besides, in the area of Jebel Shams, in Wadi Bani Awf we went into another canyon and we saw little, very little water, so we had little hope to enjoy two of Oman's wonders.

But every great trip has its reward, and although they were not at their maximum capacity, joy took hold of us when we saw how the water ran in those canyons, making it possible to bathe and enter the canyon inside through those crystalline waters that have given such fame to Oman.

Wadi Bani Khalid

After touring a winding road and climbing a small mountain pass we arrive at the parking of Wadi Bani Khalid, a parking lot that was at half capacity and that already indicated one thing, if there are cars, there is water.

Next to the parking lot there was a narrow channel where the water ran quickly, but right next to the palm grove was the dry riverbed. Surely that channel in summer would be overflowing with water, but January seems to be the case. After traveling as 500m is the stage changed and we reached a great “swimming pool"Where there was a restaurant and a bridge to cross across the canyon. We had arrived in Wadi Bani Khalid, we began to touch paradise.

The anxiety and the desire to bathe should come standard in a place as it is, since the landscape is so beautiful and the water so transparent that it makes you want to bathe in the first pool, without almost entering the canyon.

In Wadi Habi Khalid it is easy to find people jumping from the heights to the dozens of pools that cross this picturesque place, something that without blinking we did :).

We recommend entering the canyon and touring the canyon swimming and diving to the large pool. A unique tour that will make you jump and swim between pools and waterfalls

Wadi shab

For us Wadi shab It is defined in a single word, brutal. If Wadi Bani Khalid seemed spectacular, Wadi Shab left us speechless.

Although it may seem a lie, Wadi Shab begins literally from under a bridge, since although it ends at sea the car is left under a bridge to take a small boat (1 OMR round trip) to take the path that goes through Wadi Shab.

Wadi shab

After traveling a kilometer we begin to see large pools of water, stagnant pools and where water barely ran due to the dry season. The strange thing was that there were no people, so we decided to continue walking along the canyon and the course of the river.

After another kilometer we arrive at what we can call the Eden of the Wadi, since the water flowed nonstop and called us to discover the canyon swimming through its waters.

Wadi shab

We walked I swim like 500 meters. In some cases covered by the waist in other cases could cover several meters, but always with the transparent water and that turquoise color that is enhanced every time the sun's rays entered.

Keep in mind that there are areas where Wadi Shab is very narrow and the sun barely enters, so when more vertical it is, more lighting and more beautiful will be seen. There is a spectacular cave where you have to dive a little to enjoy it. Inside the cave there is a rope to climb it and access another level of the pools. You can imagine, this is wonderful.

Other unique places in Oman

Shortly before Wadi Shab is Wadi Tani. In dry season it hardly has water. You can travel by car on a paved road until you reach a small town.

Wadi Tani

In Sink Hole, that although it is not worth it is a place that you have to know, even if in passing. It has nothing to do with a wadi and can be seen in a short time.
